Thinspiration: Power Play

Anorexic Escapades Power Play (1)

I feel like my friends put extra pressure on me to always be dressed/fashionable/decent whenever we go out. Obviously they need new phones because according to mine it’s been 100 degrees all summer. I do not like being hot which means I don’t enjoy putting on any unnecessary extra clothing during this time of year.

It’s a know fact that I have a nasty attitude when I’m over heated (this can also be attributed to not having carbs since 07) I mean, why you think I can’t keep a man during the warmer months. Whatever the case, the whole point of these daily 5 a.m. yoga classes, 7 a.m. spin classes, 8 a.m. five mile jogs, no dairy no sugar diet and dreadful abs & arms workouts is so that I can be as naked as possible from May-September or at least until the temperature drops below 70 degrees.

Cut to today; I was having lunch with a friend (by lunch I mean I ordered a salad and just ate the walnuts) her and her boyfriend seemed to be disappointed by the fact that I wore a razor back ASOS tank, cut-off Levi’s denim shorts and a pair of lace-up Vans. To be honest it complemented my tan from the 8 a.m. jogs and I looked extra thin today besides, it’s like 91 degrees and they chose to eat on the patio!

She made the comment, “oh, you look casual.” Her boyfriend grumbled adding, “you made me get dressed up and he’s in practically a crop-top.” I laughed.

This annoyed me only because I’ve noticed a lot here lately that people in my life have been low-key criticizing me for not dressing to the nines. Even at a BBQ Saturday someone came up to me and wonder about the lack of ensemble posts on my site, Sunday at church a member (whom I don’t know how they knew my name by the way) commenting “you’ve been looking a bit more relaxed for someone to be all about fashion.”

To know me is to know I leave no comment unchecked so, after seeking and destroying their self-esteem in the most stylish way of course, I had to explain to them the inspiration behind my “nonchalant attire.”

It is too HOT outside to be in the latest fashions I don’t want to ruin my nice clothing with sweat, I hate feeling unconformable and flustered worrying about pit stains, nor do I like spending hours getting dressed just to smell like a wet dog in a matter of minutes.

As much as I enjoy male fashion I must admit that when I’m not with people I am a dude’s dude at heart. I don gym shorts, cut-offs, strategically tattered shirts, mesh and shoes that don’t require socks. The only fashionable aspect about my summer wardrobe is my underwear, at least they are designer.

When I go shopping I ask the clerk, SHOW ME TO THE DRY-FIT! I practically wear workout gear everyday. It’s light weight, breathable and come in vibrant colors not to mention the sweat just rolls off. It’s either that or walking around my place in my briefs and a watch (I have to feel dressed up somehow.) I’m a true Texan and I believe in wearing what I wore to the gym to the bank, grocery, date and any other errands.

I have a special zeal for active-wear that’s why Dressed to Kill magazine is my thinspiration savior this season. Just take a look at these images from the spread entitled “Power Play” photographed by Mathieu Fortin and styled by Jay Forest starring male model Daniel Bederov. This has been my aesthetic for the last past three months. Expect for my vacation to New Orleans, if it doesn’t move sweat away from my body them I’m not in it.

I prove that you can be stylish and cool in the dead of August hell like temperatures. Either that or swimsuits galore, this is the time of year we starve to be scantily clad! Save your fashions for fall.

On another note: I need a new bike, I’m over this cruiser I want something that will help burn more calories and cute.
